The Power of Giving by Pastor Charles Ewing. Today, I want to take a moment to thank God for this powerful message on the topic of “Give.” It’s such a simple word, yet it holds profound meaning and significance in our lives. Often, we focus on receiving—because, let’s face it, receiving feels good. But God’s Word challenges us to look beyond ourselves and to embrace the beauty and blessing that comes from giving.
Many times, we may be inclined to think that giving is only for those with excess, or we might hesitate, thinking that our giving won’t make much of a difference. However, God calls us to give because He wants us to be a blessing to others. Remember, we can never outgive God. He owns everything—the earth, the stars, the moon, the sun, the heavens. In six days, He created it all, and on the seventh day, He rested. God, in His infinite wisdom, made provision for us on this earth.
There are two types of people in this world: givers and takers. Some find immense joy in giving, and the Bible confirms that “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35, NKJV). God desires us to be a blessing to others. How many times have we seen someone in need, felt God moving in our hearts to give, but then hesitated? We might convince ourselves that it’s not our responsibility or that God hasn’t specifically told us to give. But deep down, we know when God is urging us to act.
Sometimes, we find ourselves bailing out people who consistently make poor choices, even though we know they are taking advantage of the situation. We might spend thousands of dollars to help someone in legal trouble, while neglecting a true brother or sister in need. Yet, God’s call to give is clear, and it’s important that we respond in obedience.
Let’s turn to the Word of God. In Luke 6:38, we find a powerful teaching on giving:
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38, NKJV).
This verse breaks down the blessings of giving. First, it says, “Give, and it will be given to you.” The measure of blessing is not just in what you receive, but in how you give. When you give with a generous heart, God promises that you will receive in “good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.” This isn’t just about receiving material blessings—it’s about the overflow of God’s goodness in your life, which comes from a heart of obedience.
The same measure we use to give will be used to measure back to us. When we give generously, God’s blessings come back to us in abundance. But if we hold back, we limit what God can do in our lives.
I want to take a moment to acknowledge my cousin, May Bowens from Las Vegas, Nevada. Thank you for your faithfulness in watching and for your generous heart. I pray that God blesses you with health, strength, and longevity of life, and that He continues to bless you abundantly for your giving.
Giving is not just a financial act—it’s a spiritual one. It’s an expression of our faith and trust in God. As we give, let us remember that we are sowing seeds that will bring a harvest of blessings, not just for ourselves, but for others as well.
Another scripture to reflect on is Proverbs 11:25:
“The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself” (Proverbs 11:25, NKJV).
This verse reminds us that generosity is a source of true riches. When we pour out blessings on others, we ourselves are refreshed and blessed in return.
To my cousin who shared something on Facebook, and to my brother, D—thank you for your generosity. I continually pray for your health, life, and strength. May God tremendously bless you for your giving.
Let’s embrace the power of giving, knowing that it is through giving that we truly experience the fullness of God’s blessings.
Amen.
